Opportunities From: Second Helpings

Volunteer: Truck Crew - Groceries to Go Summer Food Program

Second Helpings is partnering with Beaufort County School District to help provide nutritious meals to children and families while school is out for the summer. From June 11 through July 31, 2026, volunteers will help support the Groceries to Go program by transporting meal supplies and assisting with food distribution to local families.

Each Thursday and Friday, volunteers will pick up meal supplies at Hilton Head Island Elementary School for the Creative Arts (10 Bus Drive, Hilton Head Island) and transport them to Buckingham Landing at the base of the Hilton Head Island Bridge. Beaufort County School District staff will assist with loading and unloading at both locations. Volunteers will remain with the refrigerated truck during distribution to help maintain proper food temperatures and may also assist with handing out food to families as they arrive.

This sign up is for a crew member. Driver's need to sign up on a separate sign up.

This is a meaningful opportunity to help ensure children have access to nutritious food throughout the summer months when school meals are unavailable.

Physical Requirements:
This role involves light to moderate physical activity. Volunteers should be comfortable getting in and out of a truck, standing outdoors during food distribution, and assisting with light lifting as needed. Please review the available shifts and sign up today! A Second Helpings staff member will contact volunteers with additional details and instructions prior to their scheduled route.
