Volunteer: Truck Crew - Groceries to Go Summer Food Program

Second Helpings is partnering with Beaufort County School District to help provide nutritious meals to children and families while school is out for the summer. From June 11 through July 31, 2026, volunteers will help support the Groceries to Go program by transporting meal supplies and assisting with food distribution to local families.

Each Thursday and Friday, volunteers will drive to St. Helena Elementary School, 1025 Sea Island Pkwy, St. Helena Island, SC. Once there, Beaufort County School District staff will assist with loading meal supplies from the careteria and then the truck will move to the parking lot for the distribution. Volunteers will remain with the refrigerated truck during distribution to help maintain proper food temperatures and may also assist with handing out food to families as they arrive. Please note there is a separate sign up for the driver.

This is a meaningful opportunity to help ensure children have access to nutritious food throughout the summer months when school meals are unavailable.

Physical Requirements:
This role involves light to moderate physical activity. Volunteers should be comfortable getting in and out of a truck, standing outdoors during food distribution, and assisting with light lifting as needed.

Please review the available shifts and sign up today! A Second Helpings staff member will contact volunteers with additional details and instructions prior to their scheduled route.
