Opportunities From: Second Helpings

Second Helpings will distribute pantry staples and fresh produce to our Jasper and Hampton County partner agencies on a monthly basis throughout 2026. These distributions help our agencies keep their pantries stocked with essential items and continue serving individuals and families experiencing food insecurity in our community.

Volunteers will assist with unloading, sorting, and organizing food for distribution.

This role involves light to moderate physical activity. Volunteers should be comfortable lifting up to 50 pounds and moving grocery-size items.

Most distributions take place between 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM, though timing may vary depending on vendor delivery. You will receive an email prior to your shift with the expected arrival time and additional details.

Volunteers should wear a Second Helpings shirt and weather-appropriate clothing. Gloves are recommended.

While we normally meet at Mercy Mission in Hardeeville during May, June, and July, the venue will change to Creative Church,1293 Plantation Dr. (Rte 46), Hardeeville, 29927, where a Second Helpings Area Coordinator will be on hand to assist and answer any questions.

The truck driver will pick up the truck at the First Presbyterian truck parking lot, go to St. Andrew By-The-Sea, assist with loading the leftover produce into the truck and deliver to Hilton Head, Bluffton and Jasper agencies.

During the summer months, Waterfall Farms donates a portion of their produce to Second Helpings. We are seeking Truck Helpers to assist our Truck Driver during this time.

A Second Helpings truck will go to Waterfall Farms and pick up the produce, leaving the Beaufort truck base at around 11:30 am to arrive at Waterfall around noon. 

The truck will then deliver the produce to local agencies, before returning the truck to base.  

The ability to lift up to 50lbs in weight and be a qualified Second Helpings Truck Driver is required for this volunteer opportunity.

In addition, volunteers will help load remaining produce into a Second Helpings van or truck for delivery to other partner food pantries.

Volunteers should wear a Second Helpings shirt and weather-appropriate clothing. You will meet in the back parking lot of the St. Andrew By-The-Sea where the Second Helpings Area Coordinator will be on hand to assist and answer any questions.

Venture Church will host a monthly fresh produce distribution for the Okatie community on the first Saturday of each month throughout 2026. This area is home to nearly 3,500 food-insecure residents, making this distribution an important resource for local families.

Volunteers will help sort and bag fresh produce for distribution to the public and other local food pantries. The Lowcountry Food Bank truck is scheduled to arrive between 8:30–9:00 AM, and volunteers will begin unloading, sorting, and bagging produce into individual grocery-size bags.

From 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM, the distribution will operate as a drive-through event, where volunteers will help check in guests, hand bags of produce to families, and assist with loading remaining produce into a Second Helpings van or truck for delivery to other partner food pantries.
