Volunteer: Groceries to Go Snack Packing Volunteersecond Helpings is partnering with Beaufort County School District to help provide food to children and families throughout the summer months when school is out of session. As part of the Groceries to Go program, we are assembling snack bags that will be distributed to local children who may otherwise lose access to school-based meals. We are looking for volunteers to assist with packing snack bags each week at the Second Helpings office. This is a simple but meaningful opportunity to make a direct impact on local families. Volunteers will help sort, organize, and pack snacks into individual bags that will be distributed through the program. No special experience is required. This opportunity is perfect for individuals or small groups looking to make a difference in just a few hours. Join us in helping ensure local children have access to nutritious food throughout the summer. Volunteer: Port Royal Farmer's Market VolunteerHelping at the Farmer's Market is a great experience! Each shift requires 2 volunteers. We will help to make sure that each pair has a new and an experienced volunteer to help. One volunteer must be able to coordinate the pick up of the equipment and help carry/set up a canopy in addition to loading some produce in their vehicle for delivery at the end of the event. After signing up for the first time, a Second Helpings volunteer will reach out to share more information! Every Saturday, Second Helpings hosts a table at the Port Royal Farmers Market to collect fresh produce from farmers, accept cash and packaged food donations, share information about our mission, and engage potential volunteers. Two volunteers staff the table each week from 8:00 AM to noon, handling a simple setup (canopy, table, brochures- must be picked up at local storage unit) and breakdown at closing. Donations typically include 100+ lbs of produce and an average of $90 in contributions, all of which directly support our hunger-relief work. Produce donations are dropped off at Help of Beaufort and the setup must be returned to storage. It’s a fun, rewarding way to meet the community and share the Second Helpings story—and the generosity we see every week is inspiring.
